Pilot Studies
Identifying the optimum removal approach
Whatever the contaminant, identifying the optimum removal approach is essential to your water treatment solution. Each situation calls for case-by-case evaluation through a well-executed pilot study. Our ability to conduct pilot studies quickly and cost-effectively is a clear differentiator for our company — we mobilize our pilot study team to your site to test a slipstream of your water, with the resulting report guiding the design of a customized solution and supporting TCEQ or other regulatory approval documentation.
WETS offers a pilot study program to determine the optimal solution for each client’s needs. Given the particular characteristics of well and surface waters, a well-executed pilot program is often the key step toward achieving proper water quality at an effective cost. Over 50+ years, we have performed more than 100 successful pilot studies.
Protocol, study, report
Before the pilot study begins, WETS develops a comprehensive pilot protocol and shares it with the client and other interested parties. One of our experienced professionals then conducts the on-site study and collects samples, and a complete report from our engineering department follows receipt of laboratory data, including process recommendations and a discussion of process efficiency.

Portable and free-standing units
Pilot studies are conducted at the site facility to demonstrate the performance of the technology options proposed to the client. WETS provides both portable and free-standing pilot units, with studies carried out by a licensed professional engineer. Results are delivered in a certified report suitable for submittal to the appropriate regulatory authority for approval of the commercial water treatment solution. Our capabilities include pilot aerators, filtration systems, and chemical dosing, supported by a customizable enclosed pilot trailer with a sophisticated control system for on-site monitoring and testing.
Best suited to groundwater
Please note that our short-term pilot study program is best suited to groundwater applications, where water quality shows little seasonal variation. Surface water applications typically experience seasonal quality shifts, which limits the conclusions that can be drawn from a single short-term study.
